While a student at the University of North Texas, Myranda was involved in as many percussion ensembles as the hours in the day would allow. Studying music at UNT gave her a strong foundation in Western classical and marching percussion while also providing her an opportunity to learn instruments, techniques, and rhythms from different music traditions around the world. She performed several semesters in UNT’s 2:00 Steel Band, Advanced Afro-Cuban Percussion Ensemble, West African Ewe Drum and Dance Ensemble, Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, and South Indian Cross-Cultural Ensemble in addition to the UNT Indoor Drumline, Green Brigade Marching Band, and Wind Ensemble. In many ways, these experiences with world music in the percussion department at UNT is what led her to seek a career in ethnomusicology.
