WORLD PERCUSSION ARTIST

Myranda-Harris-Playing-Djembe

As a percussion performer, Myranda artistically combines and adapts diverse rhythmic practices from around the world to new instruments and intriguing percussion setups. She is an active performer in the Austin world music scene who enjoys participating in ensembles and events that bring world music to audiences in an accessible but culturally-sensitive manner.

Myranda has built a diverse rhythmic vocabulary by studying percussion in a number of music traditions around the world, including Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music, West African Ewe drum and dance, Javanese and Balinese gamelan, Turkish and Arabic rhythmic modes, and South Indian Karnatak classical music. Myranda’s musical journey led her to study with many respected percussionists in the United States, India, Ghana, and Indonesia. She continues to develop her musicianship by traveling to the southern half of India and studying with local artists in Bangalore and Chennai.
