WORLD PERCUSSION ARTIST

Myranda-Harris-Playing-Djembe

Myranda artistically combines and adapts diverse rhythmic practices from around the world to new and intriguing percussion setups. As part of Austin’s world music scene, she enjoys participating in ensembles and events that bring world music to audiences in an accessible but culturally-sensitive manner.

Myranda has built a rich and diverse rhythmic vocabulary by studying percussion in a number of music traditions around the world, including Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music, West African Ewe drum and dance, Javanese and Balinese gamelan, Turkish and Arabic rhythmic modes, and South Indian Karnatak classical music. Myranda’s musical journey led her to study with many respected percussionists in the United States, India, Ghana, and Indonesia. She spent several years studying rhythm and percussion in south India with respected teachers and performers in the cities of Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Chennai.
